Lenny Bruno Farms has been a family owned and operated vegetable farm for over 80 years. Three generations of farmers have taken pride in growing some of Long Island's finest produce. The locals enjoy zucchini, peppers, eggplant and super sweet corn. The Fall season also brings cauliflower, brussel sprouts, the fall squashes, cabbage and potatoes.
Harbes Farm Mattituck, New York
The family business was primarily based on potatoes and cabbage at the time, but in the 1980's the Harbes decided to change focus, planting super sweet corn and opening up a 14'x14' gazebo as their farm stand. Harbes Family Farm's corn and other produce is so highly regarded that they've been voted Best Farm stand by local media outlets like Dan's Papers and News 12 Long Island. The farm is best known for the Super Sweet Corn they grow each season.
Schmitt Farms Riverhead, New York
Philip Schmitt & Son grow more than 30 types of produce, including red and green leaf lettuces, cabbage, and a variety of root vegetables. All produce is grown with reduced pesticide and fertilizer usage, never treated with shelf life extenders, and hand cut and picked at the peak of ripeness for the most healthful and flavorful results In the 1920's their farm relocated to the then-aptly named Farmingdale FROM Rosedale Queens, but once again as Long Island's population grew farms moved further east. Finally, in the 1970's they moved to their present location in Riverhead, the base of the split between the North and South Forks - the heart of Long Island farm and wine country.The Schmitt farm has been a family run business for four generations, We operate a 165-acre wholesale vegetable farm producing lettuce, spinach, cabbage, beets and herbs. We provide to local farm stands as well as supermarkets and New York City markets. With three of those generations still involved in the farm's operation - Philip Schmitt III, wife Debbie, mother Ann and father Philip Jr., and grandsons Philip IV and Matt.
Wells Homestead Farm Aquebogue, New York
Wells Farm is by far the oldest continually run farm in the USA. The Wells family began farming on the North Fork in 1651 and the farmhouse in a National Historic Landmark. They grow fine quality green and yellow zucchini as well as a big variety of fall squash such as Acorn, Butternut and Spaghetti. The Wells family also is famous for their Asparagus. The farm is currently run by Lyle Wells and his son Mathew.
Satur Farms Cutchogue, NY
Satur Farms, owned by Chef Eberhard M¸ller and his wife Paulette Satur, are dedicated to growing the finest vegetables and culinary ingredients. It began when they purchased their original farm on the North Fork of Long Island in 1997, with the intention of growing some vegetables and herbs for Chef M¸ller's restaurant. Colleagues in New York City asked if they might be able to buy their produce, and the farm as a business became a reality. Satur Farms grows specialty salads, leafy vegetables, heirloom tomatoes, root vegetables, and herbs. We are committed to sustainable farming, not only in relation to our fields and the safe production of our vegetables.
K & M Packing, LLC. are grower/processors on 1000+ acres in New Hampton, NY, mainly growing spring mix, baby spinach, arugula and onions. With over 2 million pounds shipped last year they are seasoned farmers, growing 20 varieties of baby greens.
In May of 2009 they became vertically integrated building a state of the art packing/processing facility adjacent to their farm. Both the fields and the facility are HACCP certified and meet all federal regulations. A third party auditing agency is also in place. The result is the freshest product available .We cut and process the same day. Every case of mix will contain 10-15 different lettuces at all times. In the off season we have growing deals in place in California, and Arizona. The farm's focus is to bring forward a strong East Coast presence of local items with competitive pricing, quality and convenience.
Fralingers Orchards is a private company categorized under Peach Orchard. At the hydro-cooled facility located at 49 Slade Rd. in Bridgeton, NJ., Fralingers grows and packs over 100,000 3/4 bushels annually. Fralingers was the winner of the 2008 Governor 's Cup at the New Jersey Peach Festival and was also first time winner of best box of peaches by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture. The company is family owned and operated and has been in the business of providing quality yellow peaches and nectarines for 40 years.
S. and J. Leone Farms, also under the Lucky Buck Brand, has been in the agriculture business through 3 generations, spanning over 40 year. Located in Clarksboro, NJ, S. and J. Leone Farms cultivates 3500 acres and rotates grain to vegetable to keep the soil rich for the best possible quality. Some main commodities of the farm are squash, asparagus, eggplant and turnips.
Marolda Farms is a first generation family farm located in Vineland, NJ. Started in the late 70 s by brothers, Butch and Richard Sr., the Marolda 's now farm 350 acres with produce that includes parsley, spinach, collards, eggplant, tomatoes, lettuce, kale, and cilantro. With Richard Jr. joining the family business, the farm has branched out to include organic produce as well as a continued strong commitment to the environment, land and health of customers through Integrated Pest Management.
In 1906, Carlo Bergamo transplanted from Colorado to Vineland to start his family farm which would span 4 generations now heading into the fifth. Operating today under Bergamo Bros. Farms, 200 acres grow lettuces, greens, including collards, kale, and tops, spinach, eggplants and watermelons throughout the season.
Genoa Farms, located in East Vineland, NJ, originated as Bertonazzi Bros. Farm in the 1920 s. The third generation family owned and operated farm is about 800 acres in size. Main commodities include green beans, radishes, cilantro and peppers.
Coia Farms, located in Vineland, NJ, was established in 1920. The third generation, 200 acre farm is family owned and operated with brothers Paul and David Coia at the helm, grandsons of the original owner. Coia Farms provides top quality produce including tomatoes, cabbage, peppers, radishes, leeks and blueberries.
In 1908, Formisano Farms began the family business in Carlstadt, Bergen County, NJ. The family relocated to its present South Jersey location in 1952 and is well into its third generation of farmers. Growers of leaf vegetables, including lettuces, spinach, and cabbage, the farm also produce herbs such as parsleys, dill, cilantro, and basil as well as zucchini, and broccoli rabe. But it 's their fennel that put Formisano on the map. Written up by several local and trade papers, in November of 1975, the famous Formisano Fennel was the subject of an article in the New York Times as well as a book written by Craig Claiborne dubbing Ralph Formisano, Sr. as "the Fennel King of New Jersey ".
Maugeri Farms, located in Swedesboro, NJ, has been a family owned and operated farm for over 80 years. The third generation farm, received the "Vegetable Grower of the Year " award for 2010. The Maugeri 's currently cultivate 600 acres in and around the Old Creek area. Throughout the 8 decades of farming, the Maugeris have continued to provide quality produce, always a top priority of the farm. The farm produces asparagus, zucchini, yellow squash, peppers, cucumbers, pickles, melons and cantaloupes.
Dante Spina & Sons have farmed over 800 acres in Salem County through four generations. Listed with the Salem County Historical Society, the farm is one of the oldest farms in the County. Rotating grain for vegetables has kept the farm providing continually high quality produce. Peppers, cucumbers, pickles and squash along with sweet potatoes, asparagus and melons are just some of the top quality produce from the farm.
Catalano Farms is a fourth generation farm in operation since the 1920 's. Farming 1200 acres, Catalano Farms employees the grain to vegetable rotation method to maintain top quality soil for top quality produce. Peppers, cucumbers, pickles and squash are some main commodities of Catalano Farms as well as melons.
Established in 1930 as an egg farm in Buena Vista, NJ, Buena Vista Farms is a fourth generation family owned and operated farm. In the early 70 's, after the collapse of the egg market, the family decided to switch to produce and has been providing cabbage, lettuces, parsleys and peppers ever since. The 180 acre farm employees about 20 workers at the height if the season and has seen a 40% increase in production over the last 12-15 years.
In 1683, 4 Sheppard brothers started farming in South Jersey and farming was established as the family business. Sheppard Farms began at the current Cedarville, NJ, location in 1888 with the purchase of a 108 acre farm. The farm later expanded to in the next generation, 100 acres, 15 crops, 12 workhorses and a new invention called the tractor. The family tradition continued with next generation addition and expansion of farm holdings. Today Sheppard Farms is a 1400 acre farm with 2 packing houses, cold storage units and a workforce of about 240 employees at the peak of the season. Main commodities include iceberg and romaine lettuces, peppers, cucumbers and squash.
